Volver, 16mm
Volver is an examination into one family’s experiences with race discrimination in a small town, Bryan, TX. Static shots of Bryan and family photographs fill the screen while the voices of my father and uncle tell their stories in a conversation with one another. Presented as a personal meditation, their narratives cover subjects ranging from childhood fun and education, to knife fights and riots. The film explores memory, brotherhood, race, and trauma from the past as a reflection on racial tensions in the present.
